How to Measure for Furniture
Measure your room, delivery route and selected furniture configuration before ordering sofas, sectionals, desks or bedroom furniture.
HomeFill buying guide. Use the exact product specifications and manufacturer instructions for your chosen item.
Start with the selected configuration
Use the dimensions for the exact option you intend to order. A sectional with two pieces can have a different footprint from the same model with four or six pieces. Compare length, width, height and any orientation shown in the listing.
Measure the room and clearance
Mark the intended footprint on the floor. Allow space to walk around the item and to open drawers or doors. For recliners, check the manufacturer’s required clearance with the mechanism extended.
Check the delivery route
Measure doorways, corridors, stairways and turns along the route. Packaged dimensions and assembly requirements can differ from the finished dimensions; confirm these details before ordering when the route is tight.
Compare related pieces
Check the height of a nightstand against your mattress and the height of a table against the seating used with it. Do not assume matching names guarantee that every piece is included in a set.
